Can we go out on a date?

Can we go on a date?

Ever been on a date that was so romantic you didn’t want it to end?  The past couple of years I have had some magical moments.  There was so much effort put into the detail of each date that just reflecting, I smile.  Looking back I wonder why men put so much attentiveness into making a good first, second, or third impression, but as time pass they often use their unwillingness to be creative as an excuse to simplify or do away with date night.   Here recently I asked a friend to suggest a topic for me to blog about, and she said “how to date.”

Whether you are single or married, please know that it is important to a woman that her man continues to date her.  I know many men reading this have already put up your guard, but relax.  If you pay attention to what I am about to tell you, then you might just see a new side of your woman.

1.) Pay attention to her!  Most times men will mess up when they try to take their woman on a date doing something that is of no interest to her.  If you have spent any ample time communicating with her, then at some point she has mentioned things she both like and dislike.  It is an epic failure to try and introduce her to something new and out the box, if she is not that type of female. Don't assume just because it's something you like she will like also.  If you know you are taking a chance by doing something she might not approve, then don't do it. Consult her mom, sister, or girlfriend.  When in doubt, ask for advice.

2.) Money is never the issue!  You can’t use for an excuse that you don’t have money to date your woman.  It’s played out!  The truth is some of the most romantic evenings I have had were picking up wings, going to the park, people watching, etc.  You can do just about anything on a date as long as you show effort.  If you are in a long-term relationship, try rekindling some happy moments.  Take her to the place where you had your first kiss, first dance, proposal, etc.  You can always grab ice cream or her favorite snack and go for a drive or park somewhere and watch the sunset.  Be creative and if in doubt, Google!

3.) Make the date memorable.  Create a first with her.  Perhaps she has mentioned something to you that she would love to do if she ever had the opportunity and you have the means to make it happen; do it.  I can remember always wanting to go to an Alabama football game and mentioning to the guy I was dating at the time.   When I told him I wanted us to go, he set things up and to this day, I smile when I think about that moment.  Not only was I able to attend my first Alabama game, He set up a private tour of the entire training facility and I was able to view the championship rings and crystal footballs.   I never would've imagined experiencing what I did, but he made that moment so special for me!

4.) Be spontaneous. One of the most romantic things a man can do is surprise his woman with a date. Put a call into her boss and request the day off.  Treat her to a spa day.  Pick out her wardrobe.  Sneak home early from work and have dinner waiting for when she gets home.  Show up at her job with lunch or flowers.  Just remember you don't always need a special occasion to make her feel special. Let her know she's special on any given day.

Most importantly, get to know your woman.  We are ever evolving.   If you pay attention to her, she will tell you exactly what she needs, you just have to be willing to receive it. Be sure to let her know you heard and understood her.  Don't wait until it's too late to invest in her, if you do, you just might see her doing with someone else, what she wanted to do with you.

How Do You See You?

Five years ago, I was in, what I call, for lack of a better words, a dark place. I call it that because I was in a place where I couldn't see beyond the now. Honestly, I was depressed and oppressed, but I pressed. There were so many nights that I cried myself to sleep. There were days in which I struggled to eat and was just plain old exhausted; but I kept going.  Every single day, I got up! I got up and and I made a conscious decision to push through the pain. You see I am what you would call a "church" girl. I'm that preacher's kid that LIVED at church. I'd heard enough sermons to carry me through practically anything I could face, and I knew that somehow, if I just kept pushing, if I just kept going, something would break. Things would get better, and they did.   Although I was in a dark space, there was a hope that I had, that was bigger than what I could see. My vision, my faith, and my imagination had shown me "me" in a diff...

You've Changed!

Ever had someone tell you “you’ve changed,” as if it was an insult?  I have too; and my response was “of course I’ve changed.”  I mean what is the point of living if you’re not going to change? Honestly, if we all take a look at our pictures from birth, adolescents, teen years, college years, and even last year, I can guarantee that something about us have changed.   As long as we live, we will change; but I have found that people are more accepting of organic change than they are of intentional change. A few years ago I made a conscious decision to change.   This change was the equivalent of going into a dressing room and changing from sweats to a formal gown. It was drastic, and it was intentional.    I knew that I had been living a sub-par life.   I wasn’t utilizing my education and experiences to help others, and I had gotten in a place where I settled for mediocre.   I was tired of status quo and determined that there was more to lif...
